Cargo operations suspended in Shanghai region as Typhoon In-Fa hits

Airports in the Shanghai region have cancelled all flights, container terminal operations have been suspended, as have trains and many businesses are closed after Typhoon In-Fa lashed eastern China with high winds and heavy rains.
Typhoon In-Fa made land in the Putuo district of the city of Zhoushan, a major port in the eastern province of Zhejiang, at 04:30 GMT on Sunday, as central China is still reeling from record flooding that killed at least 63, cut off power and forced the relocation of more than one million people.
The problem with this typhoon is not only that it is wreaking economic havoc in some key parts in China but also that it comes at a very delicate time, just a few days after a massive flood in central China which has disrupted the lives of a million people and killed dozens.
The Zhejiang emergency management department upgraded its typhoon response to the highest level on Saturday, while Shanghai Pudong, Hongqiao and Hangzhou cancelled inbound and outbound flights from Saturday, and Shanghai terminals stopped accepting cargo since the 24th July and there is now a heavy backlog in Shanghai, which we estimate to clear by this Friday.
The typhoon was set to linger in eastern China after its second landfall and bring strong rainstorms to Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, and Shanghai, said Xinhua.
While we expect the situation in Shanghai will improve swiftly, we are assessing impact on a shipment by shipment basis and would urge you to contact us directly if you have any questions or concerns.
